The OMAFRA-funded Local Food Investment Fund and funding for associated programmatic activities such as workshops, webinars and events have been spent, with funds expiring as of March 2019. 

We revamped our website to make accessing local food resources and tools much easier.

The Greenbelt Fund partnered with the Wallace Centre on Value Chain Skills series, and most recently we partnered with the Greenbelt Foundation on a series of agricultural-focused webinars. Did you miss them? No worries, they’re posted here for your reference!

What is the Northern Food Distribution Network?

In the fall of 2016, the Greenbelt Fund and local food leaders working in food distribution from across the North started to gather to develop a strategy to address distribution challenges and collaborate on improving the efficiency, resilience and accessibility of northern Ontario food value chains.  After extensive consultation, the creation of the Northern Food Distribution Network (NFDN) was established. The initial year of meetings allowed the group to bring together more people involved in improving Northern food distribution and to start looking at what strategies would address the key challenges.

ONTARIO GOVERNMENT OPENING THE DOOR FOR LOCAL FOOD IN THE BROADER PUBLIC SECTOR

The Greenbelt Fund has partnered with the U.S. National Good Food Network on a series of local food and value chain coordination webinars.

The fourth in the series highlights how successful food hubs across Ontario have achieved their mission and goals through financial and business metrics.

On February 14, 2019, we are inviting representatives from Ontario’s healthcare sector to the Greenbelt Fund’s speaker panel and Vendor Food Fair on the Role of Local Food in Healthcare.

The third in the series explores how food incubators, commercial or community kitchens, and accelerators provide spaces for ‘food-preneurs’ to incubate, grow and prosperous.
