STATEMENT FROM BOARD CHAIR DR. DAVID MCKEOWN ON LEADERSHIP CHANGE AT FRIENDS OF THE GREENBELT FOUNDATION AND GREENBELT FUND
After twelve fruitful years at the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation and seven years at the Greenbelt Fund, CEO Burkhard Mausberg has decided to move on. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I wish Burkhard as much success in his new endeavours as he has brought to our organizations in his time with us.
Burkhard has led the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation and Greenbelt Fund since their inception. Under his leadership, the Greenbelt has gained tremendous support throughout Ontario among residents and stakeholders alike, and now stands as the most popular environmental initiative in the Province.
The Greenbelt Fund has invested in dozens of projects to increase the amount of local food served across Ontario. Since 2010, the Fund has seen a 13:1 return on this investment, boosting Ontario’s economy and supporting agriculture and food processing throughout Ontario.
We are pleased that Burkhard will be staying on in his role as CEO until such time as new leadership is able to take the helm, and he will be working with the new CEO to ensure a smooth transition.
I thank Burkhard for the twelve years he has given to protecting and growing the Greenbelt, and am certain that he will continue to be a champion for all that the Greenbelt stands for – a strong local economy, a thriving local food system, a sustainable future, and a vibrant natural heritage system.
