To celebrate the wrap-up of the 2013 Local Food Challenge and the success of our six grantees, we gathered at Café Soleil at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto, for our Discover Local event and to present the Local Food Challenge Awards.
The Greenbelt Fund team was joined by foodservice and hospitality VIP’s, our hard-working grantees, and a visit by Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food and the Ministry of Rural Affairs, Deb Stark. Burkhard Mausberg, CEO of the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation and the Greenbelt Fund, presented each of the Challengers with a map of the Greenbelt, created by marketing strategy, design, and development firm Hypenotic and framed with reclaimed board from Ontario barns. Local food and drink flowed, and guests enjoyed tastes of local from Café Boulud, Gilead Café and Wine Bar, Henry of Pelham Winery, Kacaba Vineyards, KiKi Maple Sweet Water, Langdon Hall, Local Kitchen, Mad Maple Country Inn, Rosewood Estates Winery, Southbrook Vineyards, Spearhead Brewing Company, Sweetgrass Brewing Co., Toronto Distillery Co., and Vertical Restaurant.
Congratulations to all our 2013 Local Food Challengers, for going above and beyond. You put something of yourselves on the line for local food. It matters!
